French protests have three stages:
1. Peaceful marching
2. Rioting/arson (targeting banks, not homes)
3. Mass strikes & economic shutdown
The French elite fear Stage 1 because they know Stages 2 and 3 are coming. Canadians only do Stage 1 and our elites ignore it because they know there is no real threat of escalation.

HI everybody,
I'm currently maintaining tle LaTeX and Beamer exporters in Emacs Org mode.
Now that we have ltx-talk integrated in Org mode as part of the Beamer exporter, I'd like to concentrate on
PDF-UA2 support for LaTeX.

Please fork the repo and contribute use cases that work or that need extra refinements in the curent implementation.
Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media
Violation of consent isn't limited to rape. It's an organizing principle of patriarchy. It culminates in rape, yes, but that's against a backdrop that normalizes such entitlement to violations of consent, which makes non-consensual sex something anyone would imagine, let alone plan, as something they were similarly entitled to.
Rape culture is that normalized backdrop of entitlement to violate others without their consent, even without ever touching them. Most of which we take no notice of, most of which we hold no one, least of all ourselves, accountable for, because to do so would require a fundamental reconciliation of patriarchal society itself.
So, instead we quibble over definitions of what does and does not constitute the most extreme form of such violation. Because that makes it about the exceptions, and not the rule. The rule being that violation of consent is the norm we dare not confront.

The success of #MAGA is built on tens of millions of Americans being two braincells shy of being the intellectual equivalent of a potato
Guten Morgen!

China's first desert renewables mega base now has full power plant support. Unit 6 at Zhongwei Power Plant in Ningxia completed its trial run, bringing all four 660-MW units online. The plant backs the Tengger Desert base producing 13 GW of wind and solar with a 800-kV UHVDC line to Hunan. It generates 11.8 billion kWh yearly, supporting 22 billion kWh of clean energy transmission while cutting 18.46 million tonnes of CO2.
Thanks Ihor for reviving this conversation. Just not to scare people: I have been able to use the basic article, report and book classes with #orgmode using #pdflatex and produce #accessible documents (to the extent that tables ad images can be read) using the basic tagging configuration we use for #ltx-talk with lualatex. I'd need feedback on improvements and experiments to confirm and refine the setup for a 'reference setup' we can put in the manual.

Today prof Mariana Mazzucato presents her latest book, The Common Good Economy, at CIDOB in Barcelona.
She proposes to anchor common good objectives in the missions of pubçic services and the economy in general. The government should regulate re-distrivutive instead of correcting market failures after they occur.
BTW her Spanish is really good!

Hello 😊, how are you doing? I hope you’re having a wonderful day. I just wanted to say hi and get to know you better. You seem like someone I would enjoy having a good conversation with. I believe every good relationship starts with a simple greeting and a genuine conversation. I hope we can get to know each other, share ideas, and build a good friendship over time. It would be nice to hear from you. 😊
Normally ending up at work on your day off is a bad thing, but today was fun. A neighbouring school (it's the Highlands, so a mere 80 miles away) had a live radio link-up with an astronaut on the ISS. Only about 15 minutes audio Q&A while the station was in line-of-sight, and plenty of static, but fun to do it the old fashioned way. (Yes, the ISS can basically do Zoom calls etc if they need to.)
